A babysitter can be a blessing but she can also be a nightmare too! This is why choosing the right babysitter for your child is never an easy task and finding a good, reliable babysitter should not be taken for granted.
Unless you have previously agreed with the parents, never take the child you are babysitting out of the house under any circumstances. Parents should know about any plans to take their child out beforehand as they are expecting their little one to be safe at home with you.
If you are a social media addict like me, it can be hard to resist snapping shots here and there of the house you are in or the child you are babysitting. However, no matter how strong the urge is, you need to fight it. Sharing pictures of your clients’ house or child will break their trust in you and will also take away their privacy.
Watch/Listen to Inappropriate Content
Even if the child you are babysitting is taking a nap, watching an R rated movie or music video is never a good idea, as you never know what the kid might pick up. The last thing you want is the child to have nightmares from that horror movie you watched or learn a swear word from that song you listened to.
Try to Enforce New Rules
“Time-out” might be the greatest method of discipline ever used, however, if the parents of the child you are babysitting are against it, you should never try to enforce it. This applies to other disciplining methods as well. With that said, you should always stand your ground and not allow the kids to manipulate you into doing things they usually are not allowed to do.
Invite Guests Over
This should go without saying: never invite people over to the house you are babysitting in, no matter who they are. It is not your house and it is not your right. Doing so might endanger you and the child and will probably cost you your job.
