Many people see cleaning rooms as a tedious chore. We may be willing to spend time cleaning and tidying up other sections of our home, garden included. However, when it comes to our bedroom, it’s a whole new ball game.
If you feel that cleaning your room is your worst enemy, then this post is definitely for you, as we will be sharing with you quick & easy tips for cleaning your room. We have included a cleaning room checklist to make the process easier to remember.
Set the Mood
Just as we advised in our “garage cleaning” post, setting the right mood for your cleaning project is important and very helpful. Choose a playlist you enjoy, hook it up to your sound system to get you in the right state of mind.
Let There Be Light
Make sure to open all the windows and curtains in your room before your start cleaning and tidying up. If you decide to clean at night, make sure all the lights are on. The fresh air and the light will help lift your mood and get you going.
Design a Plan
Take a good quick look around your room and decide what you will be doing and in what order. We generally advise that you tidy up the room before you start the cleaning process.
Throw Away the Trash
Put any garbage that you find in your room (tissues, cotton pads, etc.) in the bin. Garbage is easy to identify and just cleaning it up can make your room look much cleaner.
Sort Your Clothes
The next step you need to do is to separate your clothes into two piles: the clean and the dirty. Put the dirty clothes in the laundry basket and, if you have some extra time, spend some time tidying up the clean ones and placing them in your closet.
Divide & Conquer
Amongst a list of other things, you might have items in your room that don’t belong there. It could be a mug on the floor, socks on your lamp, headphones and books on your bed or something entirely different. Make sure to gather those in a tray or basket and put them back where they should be.
Make Up Your Bed
Messy bed = messy room, so make sure you make up your bed every morning. See what a difference that will make in the overall look of your room.
Dust & Mop
Using a microfiber cloth and the right cleaning solution for your glass or wooden furniture, dust surfaces around the room. Afterwards, soak a mop head in a bucket filled with multi-purpose cleaner and some warm water. Use this mixture to mop up the floors. Shake out the rugs outdoors and vacuum the carpets to remove any dust.
Use an eco-friendly product to make your room smell fresher. You can also use regular deodorizing products such as Glade and Air Wick.
After following our tips, your room should look both tidy and clean. However, there are still many more things you can do around your room to freshen it up and give it a new look. We will discuss those in our future posts.
