Moving to a new house can often be a stressful process. There are a lot of things to do before you can unpack your belongings in your new home. This involves planning the move, booking movers, organizing and packing your stuff plus cleaning the old & new home. The moving process becomes more arduous if you have kids and other obligations to think about.
For today’s post, let me share with you a few simple tips for moving into a new house, including house cleaning. By following these tips, it is hoped that the moving process will become smoother for you.
1. Change the exterior locks
First things first, for you and your family’s safety and peace of mind, make sure that you immediately change the locks on all the exterior doors. You can do that yourself or hire a locksmith to do it on your behalf.
2. Paint the walls & ceilings
Before you begin moving your belongings to your new home, you need to finish painting the walls and the ceilings. Hiring a professional might prove very beneficial here, especially if there are holes and cracks in the walls that need special attention.
3. Clean the house thoroughly
After the painting is done, you need to clean the new home from top to bottom. Deep cleaning includes doors & windows, floors, carpeting, blinds, walls, floors and cabinets. This could also extend to appliances and furniture if you are moving into a furnished home.
4. Check the internal systems
After you have deep cleaned your new home, the final step before moving in your belongings is making sure that you check all the plumbing, mechanical equipment and electric sockets. Make sure they are fully functional. Check the heating system as well. Hire a professional to inspect your home and fix any issues in the plumbing, electrical components, heating system and other aspects of your home.
Make sure you create lists of what you need to pack, donate or throw away. Also, make sure you do things according to a schedule rather than haphazardly, as that will cost you much more time and effort!
