I have had help around the house for the past few years so home cleaning was the last thing on my list. However, since my cleaning lady left last week, I’ve had to do everything myself and with my busy schedule, I find that I tend to ignore certain cleaning chores. Take windows as an example, I’m sure that, just like me, sometimes all you need to do to take care of a dirty window is pull down the blinds or close the curtains and viola, problem solved! Although this might seem like a good idea on rainy and dusty days, it is definitely a temporary solution that needs to be taken care of in a more serious manner.
This is why, for today’s post, I’ll be sharing with you some window cleaning tips that are effective and will leave your windows spotless in the minimum time possible.
Brush Off Dust
The first thing you need to do when you begin your window cleaning project is pull up your blinds/curtains and inspect the window frames for any dust or debris. Use a hand held brush to clean them and a screwdriver or a stick to reach the gunk in the corners. You can also use your vacuum cleaner for a faster fix. If you have mildew on the insides of your window frames, you can use a bleach detergent to clean it off. Make sure you wear gloves.
Add Mist to your List
To clean windows properly, make sure you apply a specialized glass cleaner as a heavy mist rather than let it drip. This will allow you to better clean the windows and save your cleaning supplies as well as the environment. Then use a microfiber cloth to horizontally wipe the windows dry. You can also use a window-washing squeegee with a soft rubber edge to get the job done and avoid streaking.
Give Screens Some TLC
The best way to clean your window screens is to remove them and wash them. If you can’t do that, try hosing them down. If that is not possible as well, you can always use the old soap and sponge to get the job done.
Eliminate Dirt Culprits
To prevent windows from getting dirty too quickly, try to eliminate factors such as second hand smoking and make sure your AC filters are checked and cleaned regularly. This will help keep your windows clean for longer periods of time and will also make cleaning them a much faster and easier process.
